First IT contract done. 🔧
A few months into building toward a career in infrastructure and networking, I picked up my first contract through ECS Resource Group: a four-day Windows 11 deployment on-site, supporting a clinical system go-live.
The work itself was hands-on: 🖥️ Swapping legacy machines for Intune-managed Windows 11 devices 🔌 Sorting peripherals and cabling 👥 Getting staff logged into their new Microsoft 365 accounts for the first time
Plenty of small problems to work through during go-live, from connectivity to the usual login snags, all while a busy practice kept running around us.
What I took from it: the homelab stuff genuinely transfers. Knowing Intune, Windows, and basic networking from tinkering at home meant I could be useful from the start rather than learning the basics on the day. The other half of the job was staying calm, keeping people updated, and knowing when to escalate rather than guess.
